Trivia[]
History[]
- The 19th Century is a crucial period in the recent history of Spain which is marked by political and social changes and transformations.
- The social order has been definitely inversed throughout the 19th Century and the bourgeoisie started to take over political decisions, thus replacing the nobility and the clergy (Ancient Regime). On the other side, the peasantry began to have an increasing social relevance by characterizing the first vindictive revolts of the proletariat, and achieved rights such as universal suffrage or the right to strike.
- The main political events are by chronological order: The Napoleonic Invasion (1808-1814), reign of Ferdinand VII (1814-1833), reign of Isabel II (1833-1868), Revolutionary Six-year Term (1868-1873), First Spanish Republic (1873-1874) and the Bourbon Restoration (1875-1902).
